History

Rise was founded in 1991 by Craig Ericson in Roseburg, Oregon. He released a small number of 7" records before putting the label on hiatus to attend college.[1] Ericson didn't release anything further until 1999, after moving to Portland, Oregon.[1] He began issuing small-print 7" records, and his first CD release came in 2000, from the group One Last Thing. The label gave a strong foundation to bands Ever We Fall who later signed with Hopeless Records and Fear Before the March of Flames who signed to Equal Vision Records. Later signees, including Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Breathe Carolina and The Devil Wears Prada gained considerable popularity while with Rise, and moved on to larger labels such as Suretone Records, Fearless Records and Ferret Records, respectively. Rise has also signed some veteran bands like The Bled, Bleeding Through, This is Hell and From First To Last. Rise Records' releases are currently distributed nationwide by ADA.[2] The label is currently made up of 28 bands.

Beginning in April 2010, Rise will release a three-volume set containing out-of-print releases from Piebald. The set will contain material recorded and released by Piebald while signed with Big Wheel Recreation from 1999 to 2002. Each disc will also include various B-Sides and rarities.[3]

Velocity Records

On February 3, 2010, Rise records announced the development of an imprint label called Velocity Records. The subsidiary is run by Dave Shapiro, a booking agent at The Agency Group[4], the ex-drummer of Cinematic Sunrise, and the owner of clothing company Until Industries.[5]
